My wife Frances and I have lived in Highland for over 14 years, and we raised our four kids in our home in Bull River. Our youngest is now a senior at Lone Peak. Highland’s small town, neighborly feel initially attracted us to this location and we feel blessed to live here.
I have served as HOA President, board member and Design Review Committee chair over the years in my neighborhood. I currently serve as the chair for the Planning Commission for the city of Highland where I have served for past three and a half years. I have enjoyed working with my fellow commissioners, city council members, mayor and residents in helping plan the best use for surrounding properties and governing rules.
I am running for city council because as the city begins to be developed out there is a tendency to cram too much into the remaining properties. I feel we will be tripping at the goal line if this is allowed to happen. There is an imminent danger that this last build out phase could potentially destroy the wonderful spirit of Highland. I also hope to fine tune and update governing codes already wisely put in place by previous councils concerning roads, trails, open spaces, and parks.
I bring useful and unique expertise to the council. After graduating from BYU with a BS in construction management, I have worked over the last 26 years as a project manager, division president and co-owner of a large master plan developer/ home builders corporation in Flagstaff Arizona. During the last 10 years commuting from here in Highland, I have worked and negotiated with many different cities too entitle, approve and build numerous projects. Most are in small towns like ours. There is a lot of give and take along with creative solutions that made our developments a win/win solution. Having been on the other side of the table, I can help Highland negotiate great deals that will help maintain our small town spirit and increase revenue streams while protecting our branding that has created a premium to our residential property value and way of life.
I love Highland and plan to live out my days here. I enjoy serving on the planning commission, listening to neighbors discuss issues, and finding positive solutions for all; thus I am seeking election to the city council where I can have a greater impact on Highland’s future. If elected, I will work hard for my neighbors to keep Highland a great place to live and raise a family.
